How To Become a Student Ministry Volunteer Leader
Express Interest
You may have an interest, but are unsure as to where you can help. Some of the most unlikely people make the greatest youth leaders, so take the next step as you prayerfully consider this ministry.
Contact Staff
This is an opportunity for us to briefly get to know each other and for us to hear your desire to be involved in student’s lives. We will give you a general overview of the ministry and arrange for you to visit and observe our programs.
Apply
The application packet was developed to obtain appropriate information to be used in the selection process. Once you have completed the application please turn it in to the Student Ministry office.

Observe
We encourage you to come and observe our programs. This is an important opportunity to get a feel for the ministry without having expectations or responsibilities placed on you. You will have a chance to meet students, other leaders, and write questions and thoughts for an upcoming meeting. Observing can often be overwhelming or uncomfortable…but encourage you to do it anyway!
Placed
After you have observed, prayed and your application has been processed then you will meet with the Student Ministry Pastor and be placed in the best spot for you on our team!
Expectations of a Student Ministry leader
1. Love God first, keeping Him the main priority. If we aren’t striving to love God more there is nothing we can give to our students. Love others second!
2. Show up 20 minutes early unless told otherwise. During which time you will pray and get ready for students. Stay to carry on conversation with students and help clean up.
3. Have fun ministering to students: Get in there with them instead of hanging back with other adults (unless told otherwise). Know students names and ask if you’ll see them next week. Know something about each student.
4. Contact at least 5 students a week by phone (just a quick call to see how their day was). Send a postcard to at least 5 students once-a-month. (stamped cards and student list provided).
5. Lead by example with a servant heart. Take last place, don’t demand the bed, take the back seat, pick up the trash, follow the rules given to students. etc. Remember: More is caught than taught!
6. What you do with young people lasts forever…be careful.
7. Please don’t consume alcoholic beverages in the presence of students. (Obviously, excessive drinking or drunkenness is out of the question!)
8. No one is to be alone with the opposite sex (unless it is your spouse). Do not drive students of the opposite sex anywhere alone.
9. Physical touch of the opposite sex needs to be done in public, in an appropriate and quick manner.
10. Be loyal (if a decision has been made that you disagree with please discuss your opinion with the decision maker in private- support the decision in public!) know that you have each other’s back! Be flexible (things change so be ready to roll with it!) Be teachable (none of us have arrived and know it all – we all have stuff to learn).
