3rd Annual ‘SCV Million Meal Marathon’ on September 7th
Chant it with me: “Lentil, spice, chicken, rice!”
If you’ve heard that chant before, then you were a part of the effort over the last two years by local Santa Clarita Valley churches that has provided over 1.8 million meals to starving children around the globe through the ‘SCV Million Meal Marathon.’ In just two weeks, on Saturday, September 7th from 8am-noon, 9 local churches will unite for the 3rd year of this awesome event!
If you haven’t participated in this event before, here’s a taste of the fun that’s in store for you:
In previous years, each participating church packaged meals at their individual locations, but this year all 9 churches will join together at the Westfield Valencia Town Center, at the corner of Magic Mountain Parkway and Citrus St. From 8am to noon, you will have the opportunity to write letters to the children that will receive the meals, decorate the boxes the meals are delivered in, and hear how you can help change a child’s life through sponsorship with Children of the Nations (COTN).
At two times during the event, from 9-10am and 11am-noon, we will be making and packaging ready-to-cook heat-sealed meals - made of lentils, spices, chicken powder, and rice - to be delivered to starving children in Malawi and the Dominican Republic through our partnership with COTN. In order to participate in one of these two meal-packaging times (9am or 11am), a silicone wristband is required, which is available at RLC’s Guest Services counter for a suggested donation of $5. RLC has a limited number of wristbands available, so be sure to secure your spot by getting a wristband this weekend! Please note that a wristband is not required to decorate boxes or write letters, which can be done any time throughout the event.
Your Home Town Station, KHTS, will be broadcasting live from the event, and from 10-11am you’ll hear live music by the popular local band, “Tewks and Beans!” Help the Children will also be exhibiting at the event to share the efforts they are making to end hunger locally and the opportunities available to help them.
The following local churches are partnering with RLC this year:
Christ Lutheran Church
Crossroads Community Church
Living Grace Christian Fellowship
NorthPark Community Church
South Valley Church
The Church on the Way Santa Clarita
